Read the written points promise
Points can represent activity scores, discounts, or a possible reward criterion without being money, tokens, equity, or an enforceable redemption claim. Read issuer, earning rules, uses, expiry, geography, and change powers. Community airdrop speculation is not an issuer promise. Separate existing benefits from undecided plans. Do not value points at a rumoured price or encourage borrowing and costly transactions merely to pursue an uncertain reward.
Issuance and redemption sustainability
Issuance rate, redemption caps, budget, and participation affect sustainability. Transparent on-chain totals do not prove off-chain stock, support, or funding. Review transferability, expiry, queues, and deduction powers. If incentives depend on temporary subsidies or new-user spending, state that source. Fees and time are real participation costs even before any reward exists; excluding them can turn a promotional score into a misleading return narrative.
Abuse controls and privacy trade-offs
Sybil controls can use device signals, address linkage, identity checks, or behavioural scoring, creating privacy and false-positive risks. Examine collected data, retention, access, notices, and appeals. Shared household networks and exchange addresses complicate attribution. Designers need fair review; participants should not evade rules with false identities. Transparent control principles support trust more effectively than unexplained permanent exclusions or claims that clustering is infallible.
Account for participation and exit
Track points, fees, locked assets, time, realised benefits, and terms versions. Ten thousand points earned at a cost of two hundred is not ten thousand of profit without a redemption basis. On exit, check allowances, data requests, and pending benefits; disconnecting a site does not revoke on-chain permission. A loyalty experience can be useful without being an investment. Preserved terms and support records make later disputes more intelligible.
