Start with the actual regulator and entity
Southeast Asian jurisdictions differ on digital-asset, payment, custody, exchange, and AML regimes. There is no single regional licence. Identify the provider's legal entity, location, brand, and domain, then use the relevant regulator's official register. An AML registration is not a universal product licence or asset guarantee. Save status, number, activities, dates, and restrictions; search ads and translated pages may confuse affiliates or outdated statuses.
Check service scope and user geography
Permissions attach to entity, activity, and geography. Registration in one country does not authorise marketing to residents of another. Read terms, restricted regions, products, and governing law based on real residence and tax status. Chinese language or local currency does not establish eligibility. Preserve formal support answers and compare them to the register. Record the contracting affiliate rather than relying on brand recognition as proof of protection.
Licence status and protection limits
Check whether a register shows application, approval, suspension, revocation, or warning, and note update dates. A licence does not guarantee price protection or full-loss reimbursement; read segregation, complaints, compensation, and insolvency rules. A permitted custody service may differ from an affiliate's yield product. Separate activities. Enforcement against one service does not prove all similar services illegal, while an absence of a warning is not a safety guarantee.
Keep official links and timestamps
Store register links, terms versions, notices, status, and retrieval times together. Domain changes and fake support exploit withdrawal urgency; use saved official and regulator routes. If the register is unavailable, record the limitation rather than treating search snippets as proof. Translation can change defined terms, so consult originals or qualified translations and mark uncertain scope for review.
Steps when records conflict
If marketing claims a licence but the register names another entity or activity, pause new funds and signing, preserve pages and terms, and ask through formal channels. Do not treat a register as a complete safety screen or pay private recovery fees. For cross-border users, match residence, contracting entity, product, asset control, and exit route to the terms and register. The method reduces category errors but does not replace local advice.
